18 Bangladeshi immigrants escape from detention centre in Tripura

An official in Tripura Police said that the incident occurred when plans were made for deportation of the infiltrators

Tripura Police registered a case and started search after a total of 18 Bangladeshi immigrants who entered the state illegally, escaped from a detention centre at Narsingarh in West Tripura district, said police today.

The detainees, aged between 18 to 40 years old, were arrested earlier for infiltrating the state without documents.

An official in Tripura Police said that the incident occurred when plans were made for deportation of the infiltrators.

The official added that the case was lodged on October 01 under Section 262 of BNS, a day after they fled from the detention centre.

The case was filed based on the complaint filed by the State Detention Centre under Social Welfare and Social Education Department.

Few days ago, six inmates of the Dhamanagar sub-jail in North Tripura district escaped after injuring a security guard with sharp weapons. Two of them were later arrested again.

The inmates, who escaped, were identified as Najim Uddin and Md. Rahim Ali, both from Churaibari, situated near the Assam-Tripura inter-state boundary, Sunil Debbarma of Melaghar of Sepahijala district, Rosan Ali of Kadamtala of North Tripura district, Abdul Patta of Nilambazar in Assam’s Sribhumi district and Narayan Chandra Datta of Bangladesh’s Feni district.

Among the inmates who fled, Abdul Pata, Rahim Ali, Narayan Chandra Dutta, Rosan Ali, and Nazim Uddin were under-trial prisoners. Sunil Debbarma, on the other hand, was accused of severe crimes like murder and was serving life imprisonment.

Tripura shares a 856 km long international border with Bangladesh, parts of which are still unfenced due to local disputes.
