A day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced a plan to bring back peace in Manipur, the police said that situation across many districts have returned to normal, owing to which curfew hours were either relaxed or removed.

In Tengnoupal, the curfew has been relaxed for eight hours (from 6 am to 2 pm); for 11 hours (from 6 am to 5 pm) in Kangpokpi; and 12 hours (from 6 am to 6 pm) in Pherzawl.

Following violent clashes in the state about a month ago, which soothed for over a fortnight, a direct confrontation between armed militants and the Manipur Police began in five different areas on the outskirts of Imphal Valley on Sunday, according to officials in Manipur.

In an attempt to restore peace in the state, where at least 80 have died in clashes since May 3, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during his four-day visit to the state, announced a series of measures, including a judicial probe panel, a peace committee, and an inter-agency unified command for better coordination.
