The Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board signed a Memorandum of Understanding with ITBP – Northern Frontier Headquarter to expand heli-services in the state’s remote areas. The state shares international borders with Nepal and Tibet.

ITBP will widen the scope of its services through its existing helipads to promote tourist activity in areas like Adi Kailash, Om Parvat, Timmersain Mahadev, and Hemkund Sahib.

The villagers in these areas will also get access to helipads for emergency medical rescue.

Target reverse migration

ITBP currently operates in three border districts of Uttarakhand – Uttarkashi, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh.

The government plans to woo back the people who left these areas in search of jobs, hoping to set off a wave of reverse migration, by way of fostering tourism.

Tourism Secretary Sachin Kurve said the state will jointly identify aerial routes for tourism with ITBP as part of its efforts to promote heli tourism circuits.

Chief Secretary Radha Raturi thanked ITBP for its support under the ‘Vibrant Village Programme’.
