Pune district will start the week-long celebrations for World Aids Day on December 3 instead of December 1 in the wake of Mumbai terror strike.

District collector Chandrakant Dalvi has announced that there will be an awareness rally on December 3 from Shaniwarwada to the BJ Medical grounds. Health awareness camps will be organised at the civil hospital in Aundh, the Pune Municipal Corporation, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and various non-governmental organisations. The target is to reach out to the the youth, said Dr Ashok Ingle, district coordinating officer.

The collector said that free checking for HIV/AIDS will be carried out at all the centers, especially in the rural and city hospitals. With five rural hospitals having the Anti-retroviral Therapy centers providing drugs, he said nobody has to go to the Sassoon General Hospital for medication.
