Yoga instructor held after German national claims rape

A case of rape has been registered with the police looking to investigate if any more of his students have been similarly assaulted.

The Goa police have filed a case of rape against a yoga instructor after a German national alleged that she was raped by him,said officials. The accused,Krishna Sharma,a Ghaziabad native was picked from the Dabolim International Airport as he tried to flee to Norway,said DIG O P Mishra.

According to officials,the German national,a 33-year-old tourist who has been living in Mandrem for over a month,approached Pernem police station on Monday night. “We were told that the yoga instructor has a room where he trains people. He is well known in the region and his identity was not difficult to establish. We sent a team for him but were soon informed that he had left for the airport as he tried to flee,” Mishra said. The team then sent alerts and intercepted him at the Dabolim Airport.

“We have police remand of seven days and we will probe the matter,” said Priyanka Kashyap,SP,North Goa. This is the third such case in north Goa,after the Tehelka rape scandal and another case of sexual assault that took place during IFFI during the last week of November.
