Starting June 1,the lower rung policemen at Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar police station will get a day off every week “on an experimental basis” for two months. Even as the department faces manpower shortage, the government hopes the break will lower the stress levels of the policemen and improve the way they interact with public. The move will also give the policemen time to spend more time with their families.

At present, constables, head constables and sub-inspectors in the state get no weekly off. They get a total of 30 casual leaves in a year and are granted extra salary of a month for working on public holidays,Sundays, and second Saturdays.
