Want to make Kolkata like London,says Didi

The Plan panel on Wednesday fixed West Bengal’s Annual Plan for 2011-12 at Rs 22,214 crore.

Stating that working for ensuring “bread and butter” of the people rather than thinking about shopping malls would be the cornerstone of her economic policy,West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday,affirming her commitment to revive 5,000 closed industrial units and prepare a concrete blueprint to create 10 lakh new jobs for the unemployed youth of her state.

During a meeting with Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia,Banerjee said: “We are bringing in a land use policy to revive 5,000 closed industrial units. An action plan is being finalised for generating 10,00,000 jobs in the next two years.” The Plan panel on Wednesday fixed West Bengal’s Annual Plan for 2011-12 at Rs 22,214 crore.

Banerjee expressed her government’s desire to make “Kolkata like London”,“Sunderbans like African Safari” and “Darjeeling like Switzerland”. She announced setting up of 17 industrial clusters across the state,with five or six in minority-dominated areas.
