Vehicle hired by abducted GAIL manager recovered

The SUV,a Mahindra Xylo,was found abandoned in Jalaun,about 500 km from Mathura.

The Mathura police on Saturday recovered the SUV in which Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) manager Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar and his driver Pahar Singh alias Jitendra had left his Mathura office before he was kidnapped last Monday. The SUV,a Mahindra Xylo,was found abandoned in Jalaun,about 500 km from Mathura.

The vehicle had been parked at an isolated place in Kotwali area of Jalaun district for the last three days. On Saturday,locals informed the police about the unclaimed vehicle. During a search,the police found a log-book which had several phone numbers. On contacting one of the telephone numbers,they came to know that the vehicle had been hired for the GAIL officer who had been missing since Monday.

Beed doctor couple surrenders

The doctor couple from Beed,Sudam and Saraswati Munde,who allegedly ran a female foeticide racket and had been absconding for the last 26 days,surrendered at the Parli-Vaijanath police station on Sunday evening.

While several female foeticide cases are registered against the couple,they were wanted by the police after fresh charges were framed against them following the death of on Vijaymala Pattekar during an operation at the Parli-Vaijanath-based Munde Hospital on May 18. The Maharashtra Medical Council had suspended their licences last week.

A special team had been formed to nab the couple following public outcry.
