As expected,the TRS won the by-election to Banswada Assembly in Nizamabad district. TRS candidate Srinivas Reddy won by a margin of 49,889 votes.
Reddy,who won as a TDP candidate in the May 2009 elections,was one of the first MLAs to resign in support of the demand for Telangana. He also resigned from the TDP and joined the TRS which fielded him for the by-election.

While Reddy polled 83,845 votes,his nearest rival,S Srinivas Goud of the Congress,got 33,356 votes. The TDP has been winning from this seat since 1983. This is the first time that the constituency has been wrested by TRS. The TDP decided not to contest the by-election.
