Hooda out of limelight in Kumari Selja domain

A so-called cold war between Haryanas senior Congress leaders found a new stage at a function held recently to mark the silver jubilee of zonal cultural centres that Rajiv Gandhi had set up 25 years ago. In the run-up to the event in Panchkula, huge boards welcomed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi but not one mentioned Bhupinder Singh Hooda, though the chief minister automatically becomes the host of such an event. This was apparently a sign of Union Culture Minister Kumari Selja snubbing Hooda. Panchkula falls in Seljas constituency and some of these posters included her photograph, too. Hooda has earlier faced similar embarrassment from other Congress leaders at other public events, too.

Poison and probe Chief Parliamentary

Secretary Ramkishan Fauji, close to former chief minister Bansi Lals family, has been admitted to hospital. This was after he reportedly consumed poison, though his family has claimed he tripped in the washroom. Doctors at PGIMER have confirmed the presence of poison in the body and the Chandigarh police have registered a medico-legal case, while the Haryana police are investigating whether Fauji consumed poison himself or whether somebody poisoned him. The reason for consuming poison if he did has not been made public either by the police or by the government but sources cited personal reasons. Chief Minister Hooda and other senior Congress leaders have visited Fauji at PGIMER. The Haryana police have been maintaining that doctors have not declared Fauji fit to make a statement.

Rs 1,000 crore; it will be implemented in two phases.

Campus trouble Maharshi Dayanand

University in Rohtak has been hit by students protests and clashes between police and students. Various controversies are involved, such as financial irregularities allegedly committed by vice chancellor R P Hooda, against whom the Lokayukta has ordred a probe; the appointment of Baljit Singh Sindhu as controller of examinations; and the closure of distance education centres outside the state after the programme earned the wrath of the University Grants Commission. The weeklong protests, backed by the Indian National Students Organisation, have seen them burning effigies of the vice chancellor, petitioning the governor to suspend him,and demanding a CBI probe into his decisions.
