The Surat rural police arrested a former freelance journalist for his alleged involvement in Maoist propaganda in Surat city as well as tribal areas in south Gujarat. The Special Operation Group officials arrested Niranjan Mahapatra (37) from Pandesara area on Tuesday.
Police reportedly recovered several incriminating documents and books in Oriya on Maoist movements from his rented room in Jagannath Nagar. Mahapatra had worked as a freelance journalist for Oriya newspapers like Abhinav Bharat,police said.
