Andheri Metropolitan Magistrates court on Tuesday directed the police to watch the Oscar nominated movie Slumdog Millionaire to find out if there was indeed anything objectionable in the name of the movie and submit the report by February 25.
Complainant Nicholas Almeida had moved the court against the movie and its director Danny Boyle on January 23 for a change in its title Slumdog.
The magistrate on Tuesday also issued notices to Boyle,producer of the movie Christian Colson and distributors Warner Bros Pictures. The complainant had sought a change in the title on the grounds that it is defamatory and is completely against society.
The complainant in his petition said the name of the film is derogatory and leaves a bad influence on the minds of the slum children and would create hatred against poor slum-dwellers in the minds of established and capitalist people. The court on Tuesday directed the police to investigate whether the movie hurts the sentiments of slum-dwellers and file the report.
