Widening its probe into the Indian Mujahideen terror network, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday sought custodial remand of a SIMI leader,Manzer Imam.
Imam was arrested by NIA in March from Ranchi for allegedly taking part in a terror training camp at Wagamon,Kerala,in 2007. He was produced before a Delhi court on Tuesday which sent him to 15-day NIA custody.
The NIA said that Imams questioning is required after the disclosures made by Yasin Bhatkal who alleged that he was a link between top IM operative Riyaz Bhatkal and several others willing to join the terror group. Investigators claimed that Imam,a resident of Ranchi, also helped IM establish its base in Jharkhand.
The 28-year-old is also among the 40 suspects who attended the Wagamon terror training camp, organised by SIMI in 2007. The case was handed over to the NIA in 2010. Imam is also alleged to have have worked with the IM top leadership, responsible for the Hyderabad blasts.
