The BJP on Tuesday said that the Supreme Courts latest observations in the 2G spectrum case is a severe indictment of the Manmohan Singh government and the functioning of the Prime Ministers office.
Todays verdict is a severe indictment of the UPA government, particularly the functioning of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The application seeking prosecution of the then telecom minister A Raja was kept pending for 16 months by his office, said partys chief spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad.
Welcoming the order, the BJP said the timeframe of four months for giving sanction for prosecution is a new milestone in the fight against corruption.
Prasad said this was the second indictment actually, after the PMs decision to appoint the then CVC P J Thomas was struck down by the Supreme Court earlier. Will Manmohan Singh draw the right lessons now? He had suffered severe embarrassment in the case of CVC appointment. This is his second indictment, Prasad charged, adding that Singh gave vague replies to questions on Raja raised by Subramanian Swamy, insisting that the CBI was looking into the matter.
The BJP used the opportunity to once again raise the issue of charges against Home Minister P Chidambaram in the 2G case, and sought to know if an honest investigation would be initiated against him. Had he (Chidambaram) acted promptly and accepted the advice of his officers, huge amounts of public revenue would not have been lost, Prasad claimed.
