The Supreme Court on Monday allowed an early hearing of Tamil Nadu government’s plea on constitution

The Supreme Court on Monday allowed an early hearing of Tamil Nadu government’s plea on constitution of Cauvery Management Board and Regulation Committee for efficacious distribution of river water.

A Bench led by CJI Altamas Kabir fixed the matter for hearing on July 13 and permitted the Karnataka to file its response to the application.

Nudged by the SC,the Centre, six years after the order was passed, had on February 19 notified the final award of the Cauvery Waters Dispute Tribunal. According to Tamil Nadu, the Management Board and the Regulation Committee were to be constituted as per the final order of the Tribunal in 2007.

Senior advocate C S Vaidyanathan, representing Tamil Nadu, said the Cauvery Management Board was required to be constituted because the supervisory committee could not issue any direction to Karnataka to release water for the state.
