SC notice to UP on secretary appointment

The Supreme Court issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government on a petition alleging that the appointment of Pradeep Dubey

The Supreme Court on Monday issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government on a petition alleging that the appointment of Pradeep Dubey as principal secretary of Legislative Assembly was unconstitutional and arbitrary.

A Bench headed by Chief Justice of India S H Kapadia sought a response from the state government and Dubey in this regard.

“The appointment of Dubey to the post of the Principal Secretary,Parliamentary Affairs,is violative of Articles 14 and 19 of the Constitution as no eligibility criteria was determined for filling up the post and no process of selection was initiated and he was appointed by adopting an unreasonable and arbitrary manner,” contended senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Mohit Chadda.
