The SC on Friday stayed mining at 19 mines in Karnataka. The ban includes transportation of extracted iron ore.
The SC based the order on reports of the Central Empowered Committee appointed by it,which found large-scale illegal mining in Bellary. We make it clear that there would be no mining or transportation of mined materials (at 19 mines) till further orders, the SC said, adding it would soon decide on the remaining 68 mines that also figure in the panels report.
