A day after the Home Secretary-level talks between India and Pakistan in New Delhi, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday said the National Investigation Agencys probe into the Samjhauta Express blasts had gathered momentum.

Sixty-eight people were killed,43 of them Pakistani nationals,in the blast that took place in February 2007. The NIA took over the probe from Haryana Police in 2010.

During the talks,Pakistan raised the issue and wanted to know the progress in the investigation.

Indian authorities conveyed that the probe was still on and the co-conspirators were yet to be nabbed. The details will be shared once investigation is complete.

The Home Ministry said the NIA conducted painstaking investigation and its sleuths visited a number of states and involved experts from the Forensic Science and Railways in their probe.

A breakthrough in the case was achieved in the month of December 2010 after the arrest of a key conspirator, who confessed not only of his involvement in the criminal conspiracy but also divulged names of co-conspirators,who had caused the blasts. Further investigation is continuing, the Home Ministry said in a statement.
