Calling stupid its own September 10 decision to ban actress Nikita Thukral for three years for her alleged dalliance with Kannada film actor Darshan, the Kannada Film Producers Association on Thursday lifted the ban.
The producers association had banned Nikita after she was named as the cause for marital discord between Darshan, one of Kannada cinemas most bankable stars, and his wife Vijayalakshmi in a police complaint by Vijayalakshmi.
Under fire from various quarters for the decision to ban Nikita, including rights activists and senior Kannada industry people, association president Munirathna Naidu tendered an apology to the actress on Thursday.
It was a hurried decision. Nikita has a blemish-less record and is of a good character. She is free to go anywhere in Karnataka and act in Kannada films. With this episode,we have decided against banning any artistes in the future, Naidu said.
The association president said that the ban had been announced after meetings with Darshan’s wife while she lay brutalised in hospital, with requests to withdraw her complaint as it would hamper the actor’s future.
Since Wednesday, the association has also been up against the prospects of prosecution for impeding the course of justice by getting Darshans wife to withdraw her complaint in return for a ban on Nikita Thukral.
An advocate,A V Amarnathan, had sought permission from the state Advocate General to file a case against the producers association for coercing Vijayalakshmi to change her mind.
Nikita Thukral has denied being the cause of the marital discord. In a statement from Mumbai,Nikita said,I would not like to justify myself because the truth is apparent. I am really hurt by the entire situation. I thank everyone who stood by me,especially my fans, artistes, and the industry, which has always been family to me.
