A doctor who performed the post-mortem on Kausarbanu Shaikh, who was among those killed in Naroda Patiya in 2002,told the special trial court on Wednesday that she had died of burn injuries. Some activists had earlier alleged that Kausarbanu, who was about eight months pregnant at the time, was raped and her abdomen slit open with a sharp-edged weapon.
Deposing before the special court today,Dr Jayant Kanoriya, who was then posted at the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, said Kausarbanu did not have any internal injuries. He said she died due to burn injuries and shock. He said the foetus was eight months old and weighed 2.5 kg.
