The Punjab Police on Thursday said they were closing in on those who shot dead newly-wed couple Pardip Singh and Prabhjit Kaur,in a suspected case of honour killing,in Patti on Tuesday. Police teams from Tarn Taran,Ferozepur and Moga districts are working on a multi-pronged strategy to nab the killers.
Police have booked five persons including the girls father and is working on the theory that goons were hired to execute the murder. The special team formed to investigate the case will nab the accused in a matter of hours, said Patti SHO Hardeep Singh,who heads the team. The accused have fled their homes,but we are close on their heels, he said,adding that homes of relatives were raided and some of them have been rounded up. The two families had been harassing the couple ever since they eloped to get married.
The couple were gunned down while coming out of a school where Prabhjit was appearing for her Plus II exam. In fact,the assailants pumped 15 bullets into the two and made sure they were dead.
