Of the many breath taking experiences in Las Vegas,where the temperatures are a soaring 42 degrees Celcius in the afternoons and the desert heat makes even an Indian like meotherwise used to heat and dustbristle,some luxury casinos and their lush shopping areas sparkle with fashions furtive familiarities.
Spotting Karl Lagerfelds Paris-Bombay Pre-Fall 2012 Chanel collection in the stores at the Palazzo Casino was one such moment. Incidentally the theme at the Palazzo and its sister casino Venetian is a recreation of Venice complete with a Grand Canal,a ceiling that transports you to a European afternoon with blue,mildly clouded skies and gondolas with singing gondoliers alongside cafes,and balconies with stores that hawk luxury labels.
While mannequins in Chanel windows gave me a quick,painless shot of India when least expected,whats charming is the way a lot of jewellery has been styled to look subtle. See these pictures and count the details; there are dozens of themdecorative cuffs and chains,head pieces,studded belts,bejewelled necklaces and sparkling shoes and bags,yet not a single piece looks one too many. It all so thoughtfully put together that I wonder if the styling of this collection as a whole with its drape dresses,shoes and Chanels signature black and white colours with red lips scores over individual pieces (should we take the collection apart,a piece at a time,will it still look so beautiful?).
