As the BJP launched on Saturday a week-long offensive in 141 Assembly segments contested by the JD(U) in the last polls to play up what it calls the betrayal of mandate in the breaking of the alliance, former deputy chief minister and Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council Sushil Kumar Modi termed the Nitish Kumar governments delayed and token response to relief and rescue operations in Uttarakhand an act of criminal negligence. Modi alleged that four Bihar government officials have been still sharing information and are not able to say how many people from the state they had traced and rescued so far.
The Bihar BJP leader, who has been spearheading the campaign against the JD(U),has now started attacking the state government, first for trying to push things under the carpet by ordering judicial probe into Bagaha police firing in which six Scheduled Tribes people were killed and now by criticising the insensitive side of the state government in the Uttarakhand tragedy.
We have closely monitored the state government response. The Bihar team could start its work in Uttarakhand from June 24,eight days after the disaster struck. Over hundreds of people from Bihar are still missing. The state governments response is nothing short of criminal negligence, said Modi.
JD(U) national spokesp-erson and Rajya Sabha MP Shivanand Tiwari, however, said the state government had responded well and had been putting its best efforts in Uttarakhand. Taking a dig at Narendra Modis over publicised rescue act,Tiwari said: Nitish Kumar is neither a Rambo nor a Robinhood.
Meanwhile, most top BJP leaders, including Sushil Kumar Modi,Nand Kishore Yadav,Syed Shahnawaz Hussain,C P Thakur and Mangal Pandey, have been conducting solo public meetings in Assembly segments contested by the JD(U) in last elections.
BJP state president Mangal Pandey told The Indian Express: While former minister Giriraj Singh took on the CM in his home turf Nalanda, other top leaders covered Assembly segments represented by JD(U) ministers. Despite rain and ongoing paddy season,we have been getting very good public response.
