Nanavati panel gets another 6-month extension

Constituted on March 6,2002 to probe the Godhra train carnage on February 27,2002.

The Gujarat government on Tuesday granted Nanavati-Mehta Commission,that is probing the 2002 Godhra train carnage and subsequent communal riots in the state,extension till June 30,2014 for submitting its report. Constituted on March 6,2002 to probe the Godhra train carnage on February 27,2002 and the subsequent communal riots in Gujarat,the Commission had sought some more time to submit its report.

This is the 21st extension the Commission has got from the state government to complete its probe and submit a report.

C G Patel,secretary of the Commission,said,Today,we have received a communication through fax from the state government whereby the Commission has been granted extension till June 30,2014.
