Suspected National Liberation Front of Tripura militants have issued a ransom demand of Rs 5 crore for the release of a telecommunications professional kidnapped with two others at the Indo-Bangladesh border on November 23.
A senior police official said the demand was made directly to Noida-based Telecom Network Solutions (TNS),the company that employs Deep Mandal,a resident of Kolkata.
Mandal was part of a four-member team working in Mizoram under a contract for Airtel when he,along with two others,was abducted near an abandoned anti-poaching camp in Mizorams Mamit district and taken into the jungle on the other side of the International Border.
Officials of TNS met with officials in Mizoram and visited West Phaileng,the town closest to the place he was abducted from earlier this week to take stock,a senior Airtel official said.
The ransom demand was made to TNS and not Airtel,he added. TNS officials could not be reached for comment.
