JOHANNESBURG: Former South African President Nelson Mandela,who has been in hospital since early June with a lung infection,is showing “great resilience” although he remains in a critical but stable condition,the presidency said Saturday. “While at times,his condition becomes unstable,the doctors indicate that the former president has demonstrated great resilience and his condition tends to stabilise as a result of medical interventions,” it said in its latest update on the condition of the 95-year-old anti-apartheid hero. Egypt shortens curfew after lull in unrest

CAIRO: Egypt’s government has shortened a widely-imposed evening curfew by two hours starting Saturday,responding to citizens’ demands as unrest in the country wanes. washington: A giant panda gave birth to a cub at Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington Friday — though it was not immediately clear who the father might be. The birth of the cub,which has not yet been named,is the third for the mother,15-year-old Mei Xiang,who could be seen cradling the newborn shortly after giving birth Friday. PTI
