Lieutenant Navdeep Singh,26,who died fighting infiltrators in J&Ks Gurez sector on Saturday,had called up and told his father just a day before that he would be coming home on a long leave in November.
Joginder Singh,who retired as Army Subedar-Major,told The Sunday Express that he spoke to his son Friday evening. We wanted to get him married. He was my brave son. He told me he will be coming home on a long leave in November. We were happily talking last evening. I didnt know it would be the last time he was addressing me as daddy, he said,trying hard to control his tears.
He said Navdeep graduated in hotel management. But he wanted to join the Army. He was commissioned in April 2010.
Navdeep,who last came home in April,has a younger sister Navjot Kaur and brother Sandeep Singh,an engineering student.
