Pakistani authorities have awarded key postings in Punjab to police officers who were directly responsible for security lapses in the attack on the Lankan cricket team.
Six Pakistani security officials and an ICC van driver were killed and six Lankan players suffered injuries when a group of 13 gunmen ambushed their convoy near Qadhafi Stadium on March 3.
It is beyond the comprehension of any officer in the department as how could the government instead of initiating strict action award important posting to those responsible for attack on our guest team, said a Lahore police officer.
A judicial tribunal and a police inquiry had held superintendents of police Dr Abid Khan,Rai Ejaz and Ahsen Younas responsible for not ensuring proper security cover for the Lankan team. Abid was SP Model Town,Ejaz SP Civil Lines and Younas SP security with the additional charge of the VVIP SP at the time of the incident. The three were made officer on special duty recently. Abid has been made SP investigation Nankana Sahib,Ejaz Additional SP Sargodha and Younas Kasur SP investigation.
The tribunal had pointed out that the officers had not bothered to man the route for the first two days of the second Test. The terrorists exploited the loophole.
