Karat: Will seek action against Trinamool MP

We have been telling the Election Commission about the use of money power in election

CPM general secretary Prakash Karat said his party would lodge a complaint with the Election Commission seeking appropriate action against Trinamool Congress MP K D Singh, who was stopped at Delhi airport on Tuesday for carrying cash adding up to Rs 57 lakh while on his way to Guwahati. “We have been telling the Election Commission about the use of money power in election. How did they allow him to go with money? Normally they seize it,” said Karat.

Earlier in the day,CPM members made a futile attempt to raise the issue in the Rajya Sabha. CPM’s K N Balagopal argued that it was an important matter but the Chair denied permission, saying an advance notice has to be given to raise a matter against a Member.
