Japan,the only country to declare strong emission cut targets this year,stepped up the pressure on developing countries to commit to quantifiable emission cuts.
Senior Japanese climate change negotiator Yoshiko Kijima on Wednesday said,We need a commitment from the developing countries. We want them to say we will cut emissions by this much,by this year. Domestic commitments or targets (the sort India has) will not do. We want developing countries to do more, Kijima said. We are also willing to give more money than before to developing countries for climate change mitigation and adaptation,but we need commitments, she added.
