Taking a step forward in the increasing global image of Bengali films,the International Bangla Film Academy (IBFA) is all set to host their own award ceremony from June 9 -11,in Thailand. Touted as the most glittering award ceremony to be held for Bengali cinema in an east Asian country,the awards will be given in 19 categories,with films released between January 1 and December 31,2011 coming under the scanner,said an IBFA spokesperson in Kolkata.
The best movie nominations include all the critically acclaimed ones including Baishe Shrabon,Icche,Noukadubi,Ranjana Ami Ar Ashbona while actresses Konkona Sen Sharma (Iti Mrinalini),Raima Sen (Noukadubi),Sohini Sengupta (Icche),Koel Mallick (Paglu) were among the nominees for Best Actor (female) category.
Actor-turned-director Anjan Dutta (in the role of a passionate,aging rockstar in the self-directed national award winner Ranjana Ami Ar Ashbona),Jishu Sengupta (in Rituparno Ghoshs Noukadubi),superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee (as a multi-dimensional cop in Srijit Mukherjees Baishe Shrabon),popular actor Rudranil Ghosh (in Chaplin) and Sabyasachi Chakraborty (Feluda in Royal Bengal Rahashya) are among the male actor nominees.
In our best director category we have nominated Anjan (Ranjana…),Rituparno Ghosh (Noukadubi),Sandip Ray (Royal Bengal Rahasya),Anindya Bannerjee (Chaplin) and Shibuprasad Mukherjee (Icche), said a spokesperson.
It is an exciting phase for Bengali films and this can only grow. And to cap it all the recent news of Ranjana getting national award is an interesting turn, Srijit said at the function where the award dates (June 9-11) were announced.
The awards were originally scheduled to take place from March 9-11 but got postponed to June due to the Bangkok bomb blasts and cancellation of Kingfisher Flights.
