In a reaffirmation of bilateral military ties,Singapore has been allowed to train its forces at Indian Army establishments for an additional five years as part of an agreement signed during Defence Minister A K Antonys visit to the nation.
While the Singapore Army has been training in India since 2008,the agreement had recently expired and was due for renewal. Faced with a paucity of training ranges due to limited land resources,Singapore has been conducting artillery and armoured training at Indian ranges in Maharashtra. Singapore,in fact,is the only nation that has been accorded this facility by India.
The agreement was signed by Defence Secretary Radha Krishna Mathur and the Singaporean Permanent Secretary of Defence Chiang Chie Foo. The agreement for training and exercises of Singapore Air Force in India was extended up to October 2017 during the visit of Singapores Permanent Secretary of Defence to India in July last year.
