Five days after their marriage,a young couple belonging to different castes have been forced to live separately and annul their marriage.
Sonu Saini, belonging to a higher caste, married Sonia belonging to a Scheduled Caste,on June 16 in an Arya Samaj temple of Hisar. They also registered their marriage in court despite opposition from their communities.
In a meeting held on Monday, members of the village panchayat declared that their marriage was unacceptable and directed Sonu to leave Satroad village of Hisar. The panchayat also declined to accept the proof of their marriage. It was also resolved that the girl would go to court on Wednesday and declare that she was forced into the marriage and would like to annul it.
Sources said Sonu, who was brought up at his maternal uncles house, was Sonias neighbour. Though they got married after taking their parents into confidence, the village panchayat refused to accept the marriage.
A panchayat member,on condition of anonymity, said there was tension between the two communities over the marriage. He said Sonus mother and parents of the girls had given in writing their willingness to break the marriage. The meeting was also attended by Ishwar Singh, maternal uncle of the boy.
Hisar SSP Subash Yadav said the families of the boy and girl had reached a compromise and the girl had refused to live with the boy who is unemployed. She will be produced in court on Wednesday where her statement would be recorded before a judge.
