Former IA pilots threaten strike from March 9

The main demands of the pilots are wage parity with Air India pilots.

Members of the Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA),representing the erstwhile Indian Airlines, have threatened to strike work from March 9.

This is after the Air India management failed to address their grievances which include wage parity and better working conditions.

“Mandatory notice has been served to the management. We will strike work from March 9,” ICPA’s General Secretary,Capt Rishabh Kapoor, said here today.

The main demands of the pilots are wage parity with Air India pilots and an improvement in their working conditions,

he said.

The ICPA had a meeting with the Air India management yesterday but it did not yield any result,he said.

The ICPA represents pilots of the erstwhile Indian Airlines and claims it has around 800 non-executive pilots under its umbrella.

Another body, the Indian Pilots Guild, represents the cockpit crew of the pre-merger Air India.

The two airlines were merged into one single entity in 2007.

Besides operating on the domestic circuit, erstwhile Indian Airlines also flies on international destinations such as Kuwait,Muscat,Sharjah,Dubai,Abu Dhabi,Singapore,Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur.

If the pilots go ahead with their strike call, flights not only on the domestic network but also on these international sectors would be affected.
