Fiery White House journalist from Kennedy to Obama dies at 92
Washington: Helen Thomas,the irrepressible White House correspondent who used her seat in the front row of history to grill 10 Presidents often to their discomfort,died Saturday. She was 92. Thomas,who died at her apartment in Washington,had been ill for a long time,according to a friend,Muriel Dobbin.
Her refusal to conceal her strong opinions,even when posing questions to a President,caused discomfort among colleagues. Helen’s disdain for White House secrecy and dodging spanned five decades,back to President John F Kennedy. AP

Pak teen gangraped in Lahore
Lahore: A 14-year-old Pakistani girl was allegedly raped by three men,who forced her to pay them Rs 40,000 by blackmailing her with a video of the incident,police said Saturday. The girl,told police that she was assaulted when she visited the home of her friend in Lahore. My friends brother locked me in a room. He then called his two friends and they raped me, she told the police. PTI
37 cases of dengue reported in China
Beijing: Thirty-seven people have been diagnosed with dengue fever in south Chinas Guangdong province,the local disease control center said Saturday. All patients are from five localities of Zhongshan citys Huangpu township. The Guangdong provincial disease control and prevention center said more cases are likely to be reported. PTI
Britain to criminalise spitting in public
London: Local councils across Britain are likely to get the authority to make spitting a criminal offence,with the measure being initially rolled out in a borough in London. Local government minister Eric Pickles has given provisional approval for Enfield Council in north London to criminalise spitting in public places. PTI
