Delhi Police issues traffic advisory for I-Day celebrations

In order to ensure smooth traffic flow,the Delhi traffic police have made elaborate arrangements for the occasion of Independence Day on August 15,with the dress rehearsal programme being scheduled on August 13.

Listing out the specifics of the arrangement,Additional Commissioner of Police (traffic) Anil Shukla said certain stretches in the Capital will remain closed for general traffic from 5 am to 9 am and only specially permitted vehicles will be allowed on them. These included: Netaji Subhash Marg from Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail,Lothian Road from GPO Delhi to Chatta Rail,SP Mukherjee Marg from HC Sen Marg to Yamuna Bazar Chowk,Chandni Chowk from Fountain to Red Fort Chowk,New Darya Ganj Road from Ring Road to Netaji Subhash Marg and Link Road from Esplanade Road to Netaji Subhash Marg.

Further,he advised vehicles without parking labels for Independence Day to avoid Tilak Marg,Mathura Road,BSZ Marg,Subhash Marg,J L Nehru Marg and the Ring Road between Nizammuddin Bridge and ISBT bridge.

For north-south access,the public has been advised to take Aurobindo Marg,Safdarjung Road,Mother Teresa Crescent,Park Street and Rani Jhansi Road. For Connaught Place,Minto Road,Bhavbhuti Marg,Ajmere Gate,Shradanand Marg and SP Mukherjee Marg have been recommended.

“Special checking of private and commercial vehicles at border entry points will be carried out. No goods’ vehicles will not be permitted between Nizamuddin bridge and Wazirabad bridge from the midnight of August 12,” Shukla said. He added,“Local city buses including DTC buses will not be allowed to ferry on Ring Road from 5 am to 9 am between Hanuman Setu and Bhairon Road ‘T’ point and should take alternative route available.”

Shukla also requested the people to not touch any suspicious objects and immediately report the presence of any unidentified object,suspicious movement of individuals and vehicles or anything out of the ordinary to the nearest policeman. He also advised people to travel by the Metro.
