Veteran composer and Carnatic music exponent Venkateswara Dakshinamurthy,’Swamy’ for the industry and fans,passed away in Chennai on Friday. He was 93 and is survived by his wife Kalyani. After numerous stage performances in Kerala,where he was born and brought up,Dakshinamurthy came to Chennai in 1942 to sing for the AIR. He began composing music for films in 1948,with the film Nalla Thanka. He directed the music for 125 films in Tamil and predominantly in Malayalam,the latest for Mizhikal Sakshi four years ago when he was 90.
