Hailing the Supreme Court verdict in the 2G spectrum case,the Left parties said it was a strong indictment of the UPA government and asked the Prime Minister and the government to own moral responsibility for the faulty policy and its implementation.
Training its guns at Kapil Sibal,the CPI (M) Politburo said the verdict was a strong indictment of the present telecom minister who has consistently refused to cancel the licences and held that there has been no revenue loss. The party said Sibal should resign immediately and PM Manmohan Singh should break his silence and answer to the country.
The verdict is a strong indictment of the government and of those who had argued that illegal and unconstitutional steps taken by the government be defended in the name of increasing investments by corporates and multinationals in India, senior party leader Brinda Karat said.
CPIs D Raja said the PM and the government as a whole must own up moral responsibility for the fraudulent and faulty policy and its implementation. Stating that the Congress was trying to confine the verdict to A Raja,he said it is ridiculous on the part of the Congress as it was a matter of collective responsibility of the government, he said. The verdict upholds the CAGs finding that there was a huge loss to the exchequer in allocation of spectrum,he said.
