Court acquits 25 in Kandhamal riot case

Twenty-five persons allegedly involved in the Kandhamal communal riots of 2008 in Orissa were acquitted on Wednesday by a local court due to the lack of proper evidence against them.

Additional Sessions Judge (Fast Track) B N Mishra acquitted them of rioting and arson charges. According to the prosecution,Chitrasen Digal had lodged an FIR with the Daringbadi police alleging that armed miscreants had torched some houses,including his own,in Kakadabadi village on September 28,2008 during the riots. The police had arrested one Sumant Digal and 24 others,Additional Public Prosecuter S Mohapatra,said.
