Facing allegations that he had pulled strings to get a coal mine allocated to a company with which his brother was associated,Tourism Minister Subodh Kant Sahai on Friday claimed the allocations to the firm were done on merits and ruled out resigning from the Cabinet.
He said his letter to the PRime Minister in February 2008,recommending allocation of two coal blocks to SKS Ispat and Power Limited, was written keeping in mind the overall interest of the people of my area and in order to promote establishment of industries and investments.
Asked whether this did not amount to misuse of office since his brother Sudhir Sahai was associated with the company,he said,I would not recommend any company I do not know about. I can only recommend a company after I have checked its antecedents.
Sahai alleged that two rival companies, associated closely with the BJP and RSS,were behind the smear campaign against him. Citing a High Court ruling,he said,They (rival firms) failed to prove anything against me in court of law and now again they along with the BJP have come with all fabricated allegations.
