Changing a city: Sheila in Mumbai for Adda today

Each time she is written off,she has emerged stronger defying political pundits, rivals and critics.

Each time she is written off,she has emerged stronger defying political pundits, rivals and critics. Now in her third term as Chief Minister of Delhi,Sheila Dikshit is widely acknowledged as a harbinger of change, instrumental in shaping the future of a city and its people.

And that’s the reason why Dikshit is the guest tomorrow at the Express Adda in Mumbai,a city where change is in many ways still aspirational. She will be in conversation with the cream of the city at an informal, freewheeling interaction that has come to characterise the Adda.

As CM,Dikshit has overseen the transformation of Delhi — from a CNG-run public transport system to the start of the Metro, construction of flyovers to extension of green cover, power sector reforms to a Bhagidari scheme that actively involves citizens in governance.

Mumbai,on the other hand, has been struggling with virtually every aspect of urban development — be it congested, potholed roads, overcrowded local trains, delayed transport projects, slum removal programmes,or expensive housing.

If there are lessons Mumbai can learn from Delhi,Dikshit is possibly among the best placed to share the same. Saturday’s Adda will be hosted by the Olive Bar & Kitchen in Mahalaxmi.
