CD: UPA bid to defame, says BJP

“There appears to be a conspiracy to obstruct the anti-corruption campaign,” BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said

Jumping onto the CD bandwagon, the BJP on Tuesday said the UPA government was trying to defame the campaign by Anna Hazare and alleged that it had roped in the same players who were given the responsibility of saving UPA I in the July 2008 trust vote for the job.

Taking exception to the recent remarks of Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh, the Opposition party asked Congress president Sonia Gandhi to clarify whether she had given instructions to party leaders to obstruct the anti-corruption campaign.

“There appears to be a conspiracy to obstruct the anti-corruption campaign,” BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said.

His party colleague Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said the UPA government had given contract to professionals to defame Hazare’s campaign. “…very unfortunate that government and Congress are saying something in public, but adopting low-level,shameful,immoral tactics to defame anti-corruption campaign behind the scenes,” he said.

The BJP said the “wave of public anger against corruption” was aimed at Congress. “Today, corruption is Congress-centric. Although there is an impression the anger is against politicians,it is Congress-centric,” Rudy said.
