BSF to engage counsellors for alcoholic personnel

BSF had plans to engage its own counsellors, who, with better training, would prepare material for training the personnel on de-addiction.

The Border Security Force (BSF) will soon engage own counsellors to handle personnel who are addicted to alcohol. Revealing this here on Wednesday,BSF Inspector-General (Guwahati Frontier) S K Srivastava said the force would modernise detoxification methods to tackle growing alcoholism among the troops.

“Our approach towards substance abuse tends to be old-fashioned,and now we want to use moden medicine for detoxification,by use of medications that can combat cravings and help treat addiction,” Srivastava said. He was inaugurating a week-long de-addiction programme organised by the BSF’s Guwahati Frontier here.

He said the BSF had plans to engage its own counsellors, who, with better training, would prepare material for training the personnel on de-addiction. Over-reliance on hospitilisation of addicts was more a problem than a solution,he said.
