Assam: 8 injured in clash with police

DIPHU: Eight people,including a constable,were on Sunday injured in a clash with the police in Karbi Anglong district. The police said that constables stopped three motorcycle-borne youths at Deothor during routine patrolling on Saturday night and seized their vehicle as they could not produce proper documents,but released them. Irate villagers came to Deothor police post on Sunday morning demanding release of the motorcycle and soon,a large crowd assembled. The police opened fire,injuring seven persons,four of them critically.

Two lynched for molestation

TAMLUK: Two youths were lynched by a mob after they tried to molest a girl at Dumra in East Midnapore district,the police said on Sunday. Shibu Das and Bappa Bal were beaten to death by a group of villagers after they came to know that they were trying to molest a girl while she was returning home from a grocery shop at about 9 pm on Saturday night,they said. The girl had filed an FIR against the duo.
