A 22-year-old from Guwahati who approached the Bombay High Court last year seeking a sex-change operation feeling he was a woman trapped in a male body,was arrested by Guwahati Police and sent to Gujarat for allegedly cheating and blackmailing a man there using a social networking site.
Confirming this,Guwahati City SSP A K Tiwari said Bidhan Barua was arrested here on Thursday,and dispatched to Gujarat by train today after obtaining a seven-day transit remand.
We had to seek a longer transit remand because we had to send Barua by train,providing both male and female escorts, SSP Tiwari said. Male prisoners are generally escorted by two male police personnel. In Baruas case,the SSP provided two female constables in addition to a male sub-Inspector and two male constables,he said.
Barua had in June 2012 filed an FIR in Mumbai,against an Indian Navy commando for alleged rape on the pretext of marriage.
