The death of 50-year-old Maneka Das at the government-run SSKM Hospital here after a piece of the roof fell on her seems to have shaken Bengal government out of its stupor. A hurriedly called meeting today between CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharya and Health Minister Surya Kanta Mishra decided to give Rs 1 lakh compensation to Das’s family. It also decided to provide Rs 6 crore to expedite repair works in hospitals.
