AMBALA CANTONMENT, AUG 23: International Vikas Pandey of Uttar Pradesh and Chanchala Chakraborty of West Bengal found a goldmine in the 41st National Gymnastic Championships at the War Heroes Memorial Sports Complex here on Wednesday. Vikas struck five golds while the Calcutta lass claimed four golds.

With top woman gymnast Tumpa Debnath watching the proceedings from the sidelines with knee injury she had suffered during the all-around competitions, Chanchala held the spotlight by winning gold medals in uneven bars, balancing beam and floor besides the team title. Sundri Mondal of Indian Railways denied a clean sweep by winning valuting horse in the apparatus competitions.

Vikas got gold medals in team championship, all-around competitions, horizontal bar, floor exercises and pommel horse and silver in vaulting horse.

Pallavi of Maharashtra claimed a golden double hoop and ball in the rhythmic competitions. Rajani Sharma of Punjab and Sonia of Jammu and Kashmir emerged winners in rope and ribbon competitions.

Ajay Singh Chautala, Member of Parliament, distributed the prizes on the final day. Among those present were BS Ojha, president of Gymnastic Federation of India, Ambala Deputy Commissioner Ram Niwas and Phool Chand Maulana, MP.
