KOCHI, April 12: Vengola gram panchayat in Kerala’s Ernakulam district has achieved the distinction of becoming the first local body in the district to achieve "total sanitation". All families below the poverty line have been provided with sanitary latrines at a cost of Rs 2,500 each, under a Government scheme. A total of 1150 such latrines were built in the panchayat. A function to mark the feat will be held on April 14.
