GANDHINAGAR, MARCH 22: Gujarat Revenue Minister Vajubhai Vala on Wednesday assured members in the State Legislative Assembly that the government would extend assistance for drinking water and fodder to tide over the scarcity in parts of the State this year.
Replying to a debate on budgetary demands of his department, which was passed in the House by voice vote after rejecting all cut motions, Vala said the government had taken various measures to meet the demand of fodder and grass in the scarcity hit areas. He assured the members that if more cattle camps are set up, the government would extend assistance to maintain them.
Small and marginal farmers had been given grass at the rate of Re one and Rs two-and-a-half, he said and added that there were 289 panjara poles (cattle houses) in the State maintaining 1,78,381 cattle heads. Rs 2.71 crore had been spent for supplying grass and fodder to these centres.
Pointing out the distribution of grass for cattle, he said that there was enough grass for cattle and, if necessary, more grass would be made available from other places.
The government had taken up the clearance of the registration of land on a war footing, he said and pointed out that there would not be delay so far as the registration of documents were concerned.
He said, the government would distribute the Khedut-Pothi to farmers as early as possible.
On allegation made by Opposition leader Amarsinh Chaudhary about irregularities, he said, the matter could be referred to the Lok Ayukta for investigation.
