The Haryana government today announced a grant of Rs 1 lakh for the treatment of boxer Megha Bhardwaj, two weeks after she passed away from cancer. Megha was suffering from round cell and lung cancer for the last one-and-a-half years.
The sports ministry was unaware the girl had died before the department issued a press release announcing the amount sanctioned by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

However, the government realised its mistake and a fresh release was issued. Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Kiran Choudhry condoled her death. A talented boxer, Megha had won many laurels in various boxing championships at the district, state and national level.
